I’ve just started preparing for my talk for the Next Church Leadership Conference and I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas on concepts, metaphors, or images that come mind when you hear the word “missional.” My topic is “The Missional Church.”

I think we should drop the military metaphors like Crusade, conquer, victory and win with regard to folks.
Why not use the agrarian metaphors of the Gospels like sow, plant, nurture, harvest and gather in?
What about relational metaphors like a new birth, children of God, family, fellowship and spousal interactions?
Setting a table and inviting guests to share the feast sounds like a good news paradigm to me. Same with setting free those who are captive to sin, sight to the blind, healing to the sick and other hospitable metaphors.
The gospel is full, if only we would read it through a different lens.
